2, EMERGENCY OVERNIGHT SHELTER

Salvation Army Emergency Shelter, 207 Ridge St.

Men, women, families w/ children. Call 295-4058 or walk-in 10am-10pm. Police escort required after 10pm.

PACEM Office, 112 W Market St.

PACEM is a low-barrier overnight shelter for adult men and women, open Oct-Apr yearly. Typically, individuals can call the Community Resource Line to discuss a bed.

  • Current state (4/23): The shelters are open for the foreseeable future, at least through May 19. High risk guests are sheltered individually through a relationship with a local hotel. We are accepting new guests on a limited basis. Case managers (APS, Region 10, UVA Health…) can call Liz directly (434-465-1391), or individuals can call for a phone intake via The Haven which Liz can schedule.

Shelter for Help in Emergency (SHE), call hotline 293-8509

Provides trauma-informed services to victims of domestic violence and their children including a 24-hour hotline, emergency shelter, safety planning, legal advocacy, counseling, and outreach to the Spanish-speaking community.  If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, please call our hotline.  All information is confidential and services are provided free of charge.

Assistance & resources for homeless, migrant, and adult ESL families (e.g. emergency hotel-motel funding for families, transportation to keep kids in school, grocery gift cards, tutoring)

  • Current state (4/23): Out of HUD funding for hotel-motel. Mostly doing resource navigation at this point & helping parents with supplies for online learning for their kids.

If you are diabetic, ask for a special diabetic bag. Baby food and formula, as well as certain special foods needed for medical reasons, are provided on request. People with no kitchen may request special orders containing ready-to-eat foods and eating utensils.

Food Delivery Services

  • Cville Community Cares:
  • Current state (4/7): grocery + prescription delivery + grocery gift cards, temporarily not accepting new grocery requests; [link to apply]
  • Social Distance Delivery:
  • Free grocery delivery for elderly individuals or individuals with pre-existing health conditions. Submit a weekly list of < 20 items, pay for groceries after delivery to front steps. Request at [link].
  • Current state (4/15): Still accepting requests
  • JABA Home Delivered Meals:
  • Home delivered meals for individuals above the age of 60 who are of low income, unable to leave home without assistance, unable to prepare meals due to disability or health, and have no caregiver to prepare a well-balanced meal. [link]
  • Current state (4/14): Continuing deliveries. Individuals who need meals should call 817-5253 to determine eligibility.
  • Meals on Wheels:
  • Meal delivery service to residents in Charlottesville + most of Albemarle county. There is no age or income requirement, but the goal is to reach home-bound neighbors (unable to drive, usually alone during the day) who are unable to provide their own meals.
  • Current state (4/24): No daily hot meals, but currently doing deliveries of 2 and a half weeks worth of shelf-stable lunches (packaged meals that don’t need to be refrigerated or cooked). New clients can apply online [link] or call office () and leave message.

8, PHYSICAL HEALTH SUPPORT & TREATMENT

Thomas Jefferson Health Department: 972-6269, 1138 Rosehill Dr. Free/sliding scale health screening (STI/STD, HIV, TB, Hep), immunizations, sexual health and family planning, WIC.

  • Current State (4/7): Still offering some services (pap smears, birth control) by appointment only, no walk-in visits, and not currently accepting new patients. Call for clarification. Non-emergency medical care and pharmacy for low-income households, and limited dental services for those w/o dental insurance.

  • Dental: Monday and Wednesday mornings, emergency cases only, first come first served, max 8 patients per day

Comprehensive care on a sliding scale: medical, dental, behavioral health, and pharmacy. 

Formerly The Wellness Center/ Neighborhood Family Health Center.

  • Current State (4/23): Same hours, multiple precautions to protect its patients. Schedule appointments online or through the phone before coming. In-person care may be done by asking patients to wait in their cars for treatment.

Comprehensive sexual health services including gynecology exams, STD testing, pregnancy testing and contraception.

Formerly Planned Parenthood.

  • Current State (4/23): Services limited to telehealth. All in-person services such as lab testing/pregnancy tests/gynecology exams have been postponed for roughly 2 months. To book an appointment, call the number.

  • Current State (4/23): The center is operating in normal hours but in-person visits are only for sick/urgent care. The rest of appointments can be made by calling and will be via telehealth.

UVA’s internal medicine resident-run clinic providing comprehensive medical care with attending supervision.

  • Current State (4/23): For in person appointments accepts only sick/urgent patients as of now, but accepts other patients via telehealth. Call to determine eligibility. Hours are 8:00-5:00pm M-F.

  • Current State (4/22): Offices are closed, but we can still call as the rapid re-housing program and other supportive programs are still up and running. Per the office, response may be slower.
